Ordinary Extraordinary African American Women: As We Mature—the second book in the series celebrating African American women—chronicles the life journeys of 12 women from across the United States, between the ages of 45 and 69. In sharing the journeys of these twelve women—mothers, educators, survivors, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, religious leaders, grandmothers, wives, activists. With this book, the author ensures that these women and their stories will not vanish from our histories. Moreover, these narratives serve to humanize Black women — who have hopes, dreams, fears, pain, and joys like the rest of the human population. According to the author, “we lift each other through our stories so as not to be ignored, victimized, marginalized, or stereotyped.”

Compelling group of stories of women’s life experiences and lessons that they have learned. I found myself crying and sometimes angry, but glad that they changed their hardships and came out phenomenal women.
